The final day of the ShellCove 23rd Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic, with a finishtime of 1600 instead of the other 6 days finish of 1730, resulted in 20 strikes, 13 hook-ups for just 6 tags, to give a Tournament total of 255 strikes, 186 hook-ups and 125 Black Marlin tagged & released. Another 6 were tagged, but self disqualified fortechnical breaches of the IGFA & GFAA Angling & Eqipment Rules. I know of no other Tournament where so many are self disqualified!
The size range of the overall Black Marlin tagged by 26 of the 27 entered boats was:-

200lb-400lb: 30
400lb-600lb: 12
600lb-800lb: 5
800lb-1000lb: 14
1000lb-1200lb: 6
Yet another "grander" was tagged & released today, this one by Bill Borkan fishing onKanahoee, an excellent 1000 pound plus tagged in the last half hour of the Classic. Theamazing statsof 10 "granders" in the Tournament qualifying for entry into the LizardIsland Game Fish Club 1000 pound T & R Club, and 5 other "granders" lost, is unparralelled anywhere in the World other than Lizard Island fishing grounds.

The wind freshened and the big fish kept coming with the days tally of 49 strikes 34 hook-ups for 18 tags showing the fish were winning. The size range of the Black Marlin tagged and released was 100-200 pound 4 fish; 200-400 6 fish, 400-600 4 fish, 800-1000 3 fish, 1000-1200 1 fish.
John Wildberger, fishing on Kekoa, tagged a 1200 pound fish on Ribbon No. 5, and will qualify to apply for membership in the Lizard Island Game Fish Club 1000 pound Tag & Release Club. This made a total of 9 "granders" tagged in the first 6 days of the Black Marlin Classic.p> Overall Tournament stats after 6 days of fishing are 235 strikes,173 hook-ups for 119 tags.
Daily award for Day 6 team tagging the most marlin went to Mauma Kea with 4 tags and Champion Male Angler is now Darryl Mosley on Mauna Kea with 10 tags with runner-up Male Angler Mike Dobbins on Hattitude with 7 tags.
Champion Boat is Mauna Kea with 10 tags from Spartacus with 9 tags.

23rd Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic
Sea conditions were not as good as the first 4 days of the Shell Cove 23rd LizardIsland Black Marlin Classic, but there were 53 strikes, 40 hook-ups for 22 tags, with yetanother "grander" in the Tournament when Geoff Lindrey, fishing on Kalira tagged &released an estimated 1050 pound Black Marlin. After 5 days fishing there are now 8pending applications to join the Lizard Island Game Fish Club 1000 pound Tag & ReleaseClub. Where else in the World is there a Billfish Tournament where so many "granders" canbe tagged?
A total of 101 Black Marlin have now been tagged & released by 25 of the 27 entered boatsafter 5 days of competition resulting in yet another change in the Champion Team andChampion Boat placings, with Spartacus now in first place with 8 tags, on a countbackfrom Joe Joe also with 8, followed by Viking 11 & Castlle 111, both with 7 tags and Hattitude, Hart Throb, Mauna Kea & Top Shot all with 6 tags. The Daily Award for the Team tagging & releasing the most marlin on Day 5 was won by theteam on Kaizen with 3 tags, on a countback from Kanahoee also with 3 tags.

23rd Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic
As the good sea conditions continued on Day 4, the 27 boats fishing the ShellCove Black Marlin Classic reached a Tournament total of 79 fish Tagged & Released, with all but 4 boats scoring.
Day 4 there were 42 strikes, 28 hook-up for 24 tags, with a size range of 100-200 pound 9 fish; 200-400 6 fish; 400-600 2 fish; 600-800 2 fish; 800-1000 4 fish and 1000-1200 1 fish. Iona fishing on No. 7 Ribbon Reef and Viking 11 fishing on Linden Bank both tagged and released "granders" for their Anglers to qualify to apply for membership in the Lizard Island 1000 pound Tag & Release Club. There have now so far been 6 thousand pound Black Marlin tagged & released in the 23rd Classic in four days.
The Daily Award for the most marlin Tagged & Released by a Team on Day 4 went to the Team on Hart Throb with 3 tags on a count back from Viking 11, also with 3.
Current placings for Champion Boat have changed once again with Joe Joe now first with 7 tags on a countback from Spartacus also with 7, followed by Castille 111, Hattitude, Viking 11 all on 6.
Current Champion Male Angler is Mike Dobbins on Hattitude with 6 tags and Runner-Up is Tomonori Omi on Top Shot with 5.

Perfect weather conditions continue for the fleet in the World's Premier Heavy Tackle
Black Marlin Tournament where all marlin are tagged & released.Day 3 there were 33 strikes, 23 Hook-ups for 21 tags, with a size range of 100-200 pound 9 fish; 200-400 7 fish; 400-600 1 fish; 600-800 1 fish; 800-1000 2 fish; 1000-1200 1 fish.
Joe Joe, fishing on Jewell Reef, tagged their second "grander" of the Tournament, with another Black Marlin estimated at 1100 pounds. There are now 3 pending applications from this year's event to join the prestigious Lizard Island Game Fish Club 1000 pound Tag& Release Club.
The Daily Award for most marlin tagged by a Team on Day 3 went to the Team on Mauna Kea with 3 tags on a countback from Viking 11 also with 3.
Current placings for Champion Boat are Spartacus with 5 tags on a countback from Joe Joe also with 5, followed by Top Shot, Hattitude, Castille 111 & Maitai/ all with 4 tags. At this stageof the event, 21 of the 27 entered boats have tagged a total of 55 Black Marlin, with another 4 self disqualified for technical breaches of the Angling & Equipment Rules of the Game Fishing Association of Australia and IGFA.
Current Champion Male Angler with 4 tags is Tomonori Omi on Top Shot on a count back from Mike Dobbins on Hattitude, also with 4 tags.

Perfect weather conditions on Day 2 of The ShellCove 23rd Lizard Island Black Marlin
Classic, saw 10 of the 27 entered boats Tag & Release 18 Black Marlin with the following
size range:
100-200 pounds 11; 200-400 pound 3; 400-600 pound 1; 800-1000 pound 2; 1000-1200 pound 1.
Shane Sipthorp, fishing on Askari at No.2 Ribbon Reef, tagged the second "grander" of
the Tournament and will be applying to become a member of the Lizard Island Game Fish
Club 1000 pound Tag & Release Club.
The spread of the Black Marlin tagged was 2 on No. 2 Ribbon, 1 on No. 4, 5 on No. 5, 1 on
No. 7, 3 on No. 10, 5 on Hicks and 1 on Jewell Reef.
The Daily Award Trophy, for the Team tagging & releasing the most marlin, went to the
Team on Spartacus with three tags on Hicks Reef, with 2 of them tagged out of at triple
hookup.

23rd Lizard inIsland Black Marlin Classic
27 Boats participated, fishing in 12 to 15 Knot ESE, and there were a total of 27 strikes, 24 Hook-ups for 16 Black Marlin tagged and released from 12 boats.
The size range stats are 100-200 pounds 9; 200-400 3; 400-600 2; 600-800 0; 800-1000 1; 1000-1200 1. The bite was spread from No. 5 Ribbon to Jewell Reef with 1 tagged on No. 5, 1 on 6, 3 on 7, 2 on 8, 1 on 9, 6 on 10 and 1 on Jewell. Clayton Allen, fishing on Joe Joe tagged an estimated 1100 pounder on Jewell after an hour and half fight.
Champion Team and Champion Boat after day 1 was Parke Berozheimer and Chris Caron with 3 tags and RunnerUp Boat and Team on Little Audrey with 2 tags on a count back from Hattitude with 2 tags.
Champion Male Angler is Chris Caron with 2 tags on a countback from Mike Dobbins with 2.
